I'm not finished, blasts Healy

David Healy

David Healy

Northern Ireland’s greatest ever goalscorer has opened his heart about his international future.

David Healy was left distraught after Wednesday night’s 2-0 home defeat to Slovakia which all but ended Northern Ireland’s dream of reaching next year’s World Cup finals.

As it has done throughout the qualifying campaign, speculation persists about his role in Nigel Worthington’s long term plans.

Writing in his Belfast Telegraph column, the Sunderland striker has revealed that he feels there are some people who want him removed from the international set-up, but he states that he still has much to offer.

Healy, who has scored 35 goals in 77 internationals, said: “I have felt at times in this campaign that there are those who want to force me out of the Northern Ireland set-up.

“Maybe some people are just sick of David Healy and want me out, so a new hero can be built up. I genuinely hope it’s not over because nothing in football gives me a bigger buzz than playing for Northern Ireland and our brilliant fans.

“I know some doubt me but I still believe I have lots to offer my country,” added Healy, who could leave the Mackems in a loan move to a Championship club later this month, with Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Ipswich and Coventry all interested.

Keep the heads up.
Healy needs games and hopefully a move will help him back to full fitness and back to his best

If he dosent start playing regular club football he will be finished. His lack of match sharpness is showing on the international stage and its not fair on the team or supporters to be carrying him. Lafferty is starting to show some real promise and I hope for Davids sake that he can go out on loan or move to a Championship club

Healy should retire now and take a few with him as a total clear-out is needed. We need to start all over again
After all that’ll be a minimum of a 28 year gap between World Cups should we manage to qualify for the 2014 World Cup finals.
That disappointing statistic coupled with the fact that NI has never qualified for the Euro Championship Finals really underlines how poor we have been. We fans deserve better.

Never mind lads. At least I can dig out my dusty betamax tape of the Gerry Armstrong goal and replay it for the next few years.
