McGivern is ready to make a step up

Ryan McGivern is ready to take his career to the next level as he prepares to bring the curtain down on his month long loan spell with Morecambe.
Former Northern Ireland boss Sammy McIlroy would love to keep the 18-year-old at the League Two club for a little longer, but that looks unlikely.
And while breaking into the first-team at Manchester City is the Newry-man’s main goal, another temporary move isn’t out of the question.
Although if that does happen he wants to gain experience further up the league ladder.
“Saturday is my last game at Morecambe and everything suggests that I will be back at Manchester City on Monday,” said McGivern.
“I will get my head down and hopefully get a few games in the reserves and do well, take it from there and hopefully get a chance.”
McGivern’s appearance against Hungary on Wednesday night was his fourth for his country, but he has yet to even make the bench for City’s first-team after winning the Youth Cup earlier this year.
And now even his route into the reserve side might be blocked with manager Mark Hughes dropping once capped former England international Michael Ball into the second string.
“Hopefully I will get games, but Michael Ball is is a first-team player and I might have to fight to get in ahead of him,” admitted McGivern.
“If I am doing well in training then hopefully I’ll get in at left-back or even centre-half; just as long as I get some games.
“Nobody wants to be just training all the time and not playing matches, if that happens then I will look to get out on-lone again.
“If I do get another loan move it’ll be to League One or the Championship.
“League Two is hussle and bustle, but I got used to it very quickly. It’s not all long ball, teams do try to get it down and play football and I’ve enjoyed that.”
Wherever McGivern’s next game comes from after Saturday, he will be better equipped after playing a full 90 minutes in an international for the first time.
“In the first-half it was tough, and they are the strongest team I’ve come up against,” said McGivern.
“They made us work hard, but we got a bit tighter in the second-half even though they scored two goals.
“It’s all great experience for me and I will take things from the game.”
