Stephen Craigan feels Northern Ireland have been given the wake-up call they deserved ahead of the Euro 2010 finals.
It’s now 10 games without a win and seven without a goal for Nigel Worthington’s men as they crashed to a bitterly disappointing 2-0 defeat in Montenegro.
Two goals from striker Radomir Dalovic sparked the night of misery and ruined Craigan’s big evening as he captained the side on his 49th appearance.
“Maybe that’s a wake-up call because we can’t go away from home in the campaign and play like that,” he said.
“I knew this wouldn’t be the be all and end all but I feel we have work to do. People can say we haven’t had enough competitive games in pre-season but we have to be in better shape.
“On tonight’s performance we need to be honest with ourselves.
“Without being too critical, we know that all around we have to do more.”
