O’Kane is latest to switch from Northern Ireland to Republic

Northern Ireland are poised to lose another player to their neighbours with midfielder Eunan O'Kane ready to pull on a Republic of Ireland jersey.

Still reeling from James McClean’s decision to switch allegiance, the Irish FA will be upset at the news that the Torquay United man is following in his footsteps.

Former Coleraine player O'Kane has featured for several Northern Ireland youth teams right through to the Under-21s — though not in the recent 4-0 victory over the Faroes at that level.

However, a senior cap has eluded him, affording the player the opportunity to try his luck down south.

And the 21-year-old Derry man could even make the Republic squad for the crucial Euro 2012 qualifiers next month.

The former Everton trainee is also following the same path as his ex-team-mate, current Toffees starlet Shane Duffy.
