Rank bad reading for Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland have suffered the biggest crash of the home nations in the latest FIFA rankings.

Nigel Worthington’s men have plummeted 11 places to 50 on the back of a disappointing 1-0 friendly defeat in Albania.

The Ballymena man will stress that it is results in competitive fixtures that matter but fans will fear that this downward trend in the rankings could continue.

The Republic of Ireland are also moving in the wrong direction, falling five places to 44th.

England are up one place to seventh, Scotland jump four places to 41 while Wales fall one place to 77th.

Meanwhile, Worthington has hailed the transformation in fortunes at his old club Norwich who are on the brink of promotion.

“If Norwich do their job over the Easter period like they have been doing, I think they're as good as promoted — and that's a fantastic achievement,” he said.
