Roberto Baggio ready to answer Italy’s call

40. Roberto Baggio solo run
Italian superstar Roberto Baggio scored one of the great World Cup goals during the 1990 tournament. In the final group stage match against Czechoslovakia, Baggio picked up the ball on the halfway line. A smooth one-two and then he was off towards goal. Nipping between two defenders, he singled out the last with a terrifyingly fast run. The defender backed off for too long and when the chance opened up, Baggio scored with a splendid finish. The Stadio Olimpico went wild as the home team continued their progress through the tournament.

Italy legend Roberto Baggio is on the verge of sealing a return to football after agreeing to be part of the staff of the national set-up.

Baggio, who retired in 2004, held a two-hour discussion with Italian football federation president Giancarlo Abete and is now expected to officially be confirmed as technical committee president after a board meeting tomorrow.

He said: “I have given my assent, on my part there's the maximum willingness to hold the role of president of the technical sector at Coverciano.I have to wait the Federal Board now.”.
