Sad Roy Keane should move on: Delaney

FAI chief John Delaney called for the World Cup play-off with France to be replayed after Thierry Henry's hand ball

Football Association of Ireland chief executive John Delaney has described Roy Keane's outburst against the governing body on Friday as “sad” and urged the former Republic of Ireland captain to “move on”.

Ipswich manager Keane had little sympathy for the FAI's campaign to have their controversial World Cup play-off against France replayed following Thierry Henry's handball and said “what goes around comes around”.

Keane's antipathy towards the FAI stems back to Saipan seven years ago, when he left the team's pre-World Cup training camp, complaining that the facilities were sub-standard.

“It's just a side-show. We've all moved on from Saipan — Niall Quinn, Mick McCarthy, the FAI and all the players — but it seems to me that he (Keane) hasn't,” said Delaney. “It's time for him now, to learn from the past — not live with it. I really thought the images shown around the world on Friday were very sad — it's sad to see a great former player reflected in the manner as he did.”

Speculation is growing that Keane might be in for the axe at Ipswich after they failed to win again at the weekend.

The truth obviously hurts. Why should Roy Keane move on when he is 100% right about Delaney.

John Delaney should step down as FAI boss. Roy Keane is totally correct in his comments. The bottom line is Ireland should have done their talking on the pitch, and scored more goals, or defended properly. Ireland has the players, but the armchair general Delaney needs to go, as Ireland deserve better at the top.
