Tuff call as Jonny is handed Italy roll

Saturday, 6 June 2009

While Colin Coates and Stephen Carson get their opportunity to shine against Italy, fellow Irish League stalwart Alan Mannus must settle for a place on the bench.

Partick Thistle’s Jonny Tuffey (23) has won the battle for the No.1 shirt and will win only his second cap.

Boss Nigel Worthington admits: “Jonny is at a professional club and has enjoyed a very good season with Partick Thistle.

“Alan had an unsettled period recently with him being out of contract, looking for a new club and seeing what is available.

“I’ve had a good chat with Alan, explained the situation and he knows why I’ve gone with Jonny.”
