Wylie's NI girls growing in belief ahead of Under-19 Euros mission
Northern Ireland U19 1 Turkey U19 1
Northern Ireland's Women's U19s ended their double-header of friendlies against their Turkish counterparts undefeated.
After a 1-0 win at Mourneview on Tuesday, the girls shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Ballymena Showgrounds yesterday. The results will give Alfie Wylie's side confidence as they continue preparations for the Women's Under-19 Euros in August.
The best chance of the first half fell to Rebecca Bassett after 22 minutes, when a handball left the referee with no choice but to point to the spot. The Mid Ulster Ladies forward's strike drifted just wide of the left post, however.
But their luck changed in the second half as Bassett made amends, finding herself on the end of a through ball which she slotted home for her second goal in two games.
It was, however, a short-lived lead as just two minutes later Turkish winger Ilayda Civelek's shot from the edge of the area beat keeper Beth Hopwood to equalise.
Northern Ireland were reduced to 10 players as Teresa Burns collected a second yellow, and Turkey went close from the resulting free kick, which saw Derya Arhan hit the woodwork. The playing field was then levelled as Turkey keeper Gamze Nur Yaman was dismissed after she saved an effort with her hands outside the box.
