Ballymena United closing in on Boyce swoop
Ballymena United 1 Ballinamallard 0: Ballymena United hope to confirm the signature of Darren Boyce before Saturday's Irish Cup fifth round tie against H&W Welders.
The out-of-favour Coleraine forward has been on loan with Dungannon Swifts this season but, with the transfer window now open, Sky Blues boss Glenn Ferguson has made inquiries to bring him from one Showgrounds to the other.
"I've spoken to Oran (Kearney) two or three times over the last couple of days and possibly something might be thrashed out for next weekend's game," said the United supremo, who also confirmed that Aaron Shanahan would assume goalkeeping duties for the cup tie at Tillysburn on Saturday.
"It certainly would be a good addition and give the boys a boost so hopefully that can happen before the end of the week."
Chances were few and far between at Warden Street on Saturday but, against the lowest scorers in the Danske Bank Premiership, one goal was always likely to be enough and in-form marksman David Cushley duly delivered; needing only one sight at goal to win the game.
His 62nd minute strike was his 12th goal of the season and keeps United on the up, now within three points of fifth place Portadown.
