I didn't doubt myself after Blues exit: DJ

By Graham Luney

David Jeffrey says he never doubted his ability as a manager - even when his legendary spell at Linfield came to an end.

The 54-year-old parted company with the Blues in April 2014 after a glorious reign of more than 17 years with 31 trophies netted along the way.

On Tuesday, Jeffrey celebrated a year in the Ballymena United hotseat and he's already made it trophy number 32 after steering the Sky Blues to their first ever League Cup triumph last month.

Cynics said his days as a successful boss were over after the Linfield adventure ended but Jeffrey, who is today crowned Manager of the Month for February by the Northern Ireland Football Writers' Association, says he was never gripped by self-doubt.

"I did question why my time at Linfield came to an end the way it did, especially at a time when we were working harder than we ever were," he said.

"But I never doubted myself - never; it was just the right time for me and Linfield."
