Ballymena Utd 0 Dungannon Swifts 2

Ballymena United paid the penalty for a catalogue of missed chances as Dungannon Swifts grabbed the spoils at the Showgrounds.

Despite dominating proceedings for long spells, the Sky Blues were hit by two sucker punches by the visitors.

Neil McCafferty was denied twice in the opening period by former United keeper Sean O’Neill before Philip Donnelly slotted home from 16 yards out, two minutes before half time.

It was a similar tale after the break with Mark Surgenor spurning three chances from close range and Ryan Berry’s shot missing the target, before the Swifts wrapped things up with a quarter of an hour to go.

United’s defence was caught ball-watching after a corner kick and when they failed to clear the danger, substitute PJ Lavery hammered the ball past ‘keeper Ryan Brown.

The result means Dixie Robinson’s men leapfrog Roy Walker’s side in the table.
