Gerald Lawlor thrilled as Cliftonville receive backing for new stand at Solitude
Cliftonville chairman Gerard Lawlor has welcomed Belfast City Council's backing for a new stand at Solitude. The Council has granted permission for the replacement of the Main Stand. Following an extensive consultation and discussion process, planning application was submitted last year and, with approval now received, the club will aim to secure funding.
"We are very pleased that the next phase of Solitude's redevelopment has been approved," said Lawlor. "We have worked very hard in conjunction with the Community Interest Company whose assistance has been invaluable and, having reached this stage, we are looking forward to taking the project forward.
"As well as becoming a valuable addition to Solitude, we believe this new stand will enhance the local area and provide facilities that will assist with community activities.
"We are, as ever, mindful of residents in the streets surrounding Solitude and are confident that amenities within this stand will reduce the impact of traffic and parking in the area."
