Coleraine's David Kee shrugs off final heartbreak to focus on Europe

By Graham Luney

David Kee will shrug off his Tennent's Irish Cup final heartbreak and focus on firing Coleraine into Europe.

The midfielder is feeling low after being denied a chance to play in the May showpiece for the second season running.

An injury prevented him from making the Cup final squad for Linfield last year and now Irish FA rules mean the Bannsiders skipper can't play against his parent club following his season-long loan move.

Oran Kearney's side take on Cliftonville on Saturday who are only two points behind in fourth place.

"I was delighted the boys got through to the final but it's very disappointing not being able to play," admitted Kee (right).

"It's particularly disappointing as I also missed last year's final through injury. But the important thing is the team can go on and win it and I'm confident we can. The boys will show no fear.

"That's football and sometimes it goes against you. I'll be a Bannsider on Cup final day.

"But we have massive games before the Cup final, particularly the next one against Cliftonville which is crucial in our bid to secure a European place.

"If we can finish third and make Europe it would be a significant financial boost and that amount of money hasn't been available to the club for some time."
