Caddell to miss out on Crusaders' push for Europe

By David Mason

Crusaders will be without midfielder Declan Caddell for the rest of the season.

With the Shore Road boys primed for a final push to claim third spot in the Premiership table and the guarantee of European football next season, Caddell will play no part.

He hobbled out of Tuesday night's crucial win over Glentoran at Seaview, having sustained a serious ankle injury.

"Unfortunately, it appears Declan will be out for anything up to six weeks," said Crues boss Stephen Baxter.

"He twisted his ankle and it is up like a bap. That's not good . . . and he'll not recover from that quickly.

"It's disappointing. We've just started to get a few boys back after injury and now this happens.

"We've had a bad run in terms of injury since Christmas, having to play a monumental amount of football games."

A glorious double strike from Paul Heatley helped the Crues into third place in the table, two points ahead of Portadown.

Something must give when the teams meet at Seaview on Saturday.

"It's a big game for both clubs," added Baxter. "The way it is at the minute, you would assume that the battle for third place is now between ourselves and Portadown."
