Crusaders looking to slam it to all rivals, warns Andy Mitchell

By Graham Luney

Crusaders kick off their title defence at home to Portadown this afternoon and their new arrival Andy Mitchell believes the champions can dream of netting the domestic grand slam.

Linfield were the last side to win all the domestic trophies in the 2005-06 season and now Stephen Baxter's men are hungry to repeat the incredible feat.

"It's definitely doable (the domestic slam) though it involves a lot of hard work on and off the pitch and the guys staying fit and hungry," said former Rangers midfielder Mitchell.

"We'll be looking to do as well as we can in every tournament and the Crues were the best team last season and deservedly won the league. We are going to go for everything. The gaffer has strengthened the squad to give us a better chance on several fronts."

To complete the domestic slam the Crues would need to win the league title, Irish Cup, League Cup and County Antrim Shield.

Mitchell added: "I'm really enjoying it here.

"We had a good pre-season and the Champions League games have set us up well for the league challenge."
