McAree hoping to end 'very good year' with another win

By Adrian Rutherford

Dungannon Swifts boss Rodney McAree wants to finish 2016 on a winning note at The Oval tomorrow. The year ends as it started for the Co Tyrone side, with a clash against Glentoran.

A 3-1 victory back on January 1 was evidence that Dungannon had turned the corner in the early weeks of McAree's reign.

Now, as they close 2016 against the same team, McAree is hoping to sign off in style with a similar result.

"It's been a very good year and hopefully we can finish it on a high at Glentoran," he said. "I don't think we have done ourselves justice this season against them. We've played them twice and lost both games 1-0.

"I think we played better in the second game than the first one, but I don't think we played as well as we can in either one.

"Hopefully we can go to the Oval, be positive and play with a bit more freedom."

Dungannon claimed a thrilling 3-2 win over Ballinamallard on Monday, their eighth win of the season, following an impressive end to the 2015/16 campaign.

McAree added: "When I looked back over our results (in 2016), I think we have 16 wins, 14 losses and the rest were draws, and we've got a goal difference of plus-five. For Dungannon Swifts that is a very, very good year."
