Glentoran forced to hold crisis talks
Glentoran’s board of directors will hold an emergency meeting with their players following tonight’s European tie with KR Reykjavik after it emerged that some haven’t been paid for a number of weeks.
It is believed that those who are on 52-week contracts have not received their wages for five weeks while some of those on seasonal contracts haven’t been paid since returning to pre-season training.
No-one from Glentoran was last night available for comment, but sources close to the club have said that the lack of income during the summer months has placed a major financial strain on the east Belfast side, whose difficulties have already been well documented.
Five players were put on the transfer list at the end of last season in a bid to slash the wage bill.
