I was in tears... I thought it was the end for me

by Graham Luney

Elliott Morris has revealed how he almost quit football last season after a persistent back injury left him in tears.

The Glentoran goalkeeper was close to walking away from the game after the pain became unbearable while on an away trip to Ballinamallard United.

Morris, who has made 643 appearances for the club, says productive talks with goalkeeping coach David McClelland stopped him from hanging up his gloves.

"After that game I cried and was embarrassed," said Morris. "I said to myself I can't do this. I wasn't enjoying my football or playing well. I wasn't fit but I had a few chats with David (McClelland) and we worked out a training schedule that saved my career."
