Irish League fixture list set to be released next week

By Gareth Hanna

With this morning's flurry of attention on the Premier League, the Irish League is muscling in on the action with its own, albeit smaller, announcement.

It's more of an announcement of an announcement really as the NIFL Twitter account confirmed that we can expect the fixtures of Northern Ireland's top three divisions to be announced next Friday, June 23 at 1pm.

The @OfficialNIFL account also confirmed that the Danske Bank Premiership, NIFL Championship and the Premier Intermediate League are all due to kick off on the same day the English Premier League is scheduled to begin, Saturday August 12.

Presumably whoever is in charge of the NIFL Twitter account foresaw a barrage of questions, sparked by the Premier League's announcement, as to when our local fixture-list would be unveiled. But now we know.

Before then, the league's representatives in Europe will have all eyes fixed on Switzerland on Monday as they await their fate in the Champions League and Europa League qualifying round draws.
