Lambe out to show Linfield what they lost

Linfield are hard to beat, but Thomas Lambe has a teenage dream.

The Donegal Celtic defender has no reservation about revealing his aim to “prove a point” to Linfield boss David Jeffrey who sent him packing just over a year ago.

Lambe made his Irish Premier League debut in Blue on his 18th birthday, but after more than 10 games for the champions wasn’t rewarded with a new contract.

He linked up with Donegal Celtic in the Championship and returned to the top division via the promotion play-offs last season.

Celtic have never beaten Linfield, but the wee hoops have a point to prove when the Blues travel to Celtic Park tonight — as has Lambe.

He said: “I’d like to prove a point to Linfield because I felt I was doing well there and I was shocked when I was told there was no new contract offer for me.

“I’m only 19 so I do have a lot to prove in general.

It’s a big step up from the Championship and it has taken us a few games to settle, but the signs are that we are improving.

“We let ourselves down against Cliftonville on Saturday. Now we have to get back up against Linfield and challenges don’t come any harder than that.”
