Limavady boys Roe in with a Foyle Cup first

By Brendan Hagan

Roe Valley under 9's , from Limavady, picked up the first silverware of the 2015 Hughes Insurance Foyle Cup in their 3-0 age group final win over city side Oxford United Stars.

A huge crowd were treated to an end to end battle until the young Stars were rocked by three goals in a four minute spell to send the trophy to Limavady.

Celtic continued their march in the U14 section with an emphatic 7-0 win over Coleraine outfit Bertie Peacock Youth, named after the late, great, Northern Ireland and Parkhead star.

The young Celts got off to a flying start and were on the scoresheet within 10 minutes. Kieran McGrath got on the end of a slick passing move to finish off.

The pressure continued withchances coming in waves for the Hoops an it wasn't long before it was 2-0 and it was well worked yet again. Leon Chiwara broke away and played a one-two down the right before finishing smartly at the near post.

As the interval nearer, the pressure only intensified and David McKay was pulling the strings wonderfully in the middle for the Celts. The central midfielder and captain found himself in a yard of space just outside the area and nonchalantly swept the ball in to give his team a 3-0 lead at the break.

Celtic came out in the second half and turned on the after burners - they were just too quick and powerful all over the park and the Coleraine lads couldn't get close to them.

Connor Farrelly added to Celtic's lead just a couple of minutes after the restart and McKay got his second soon after, the Bhoys puppet master volleying home from close range. To their credit, the Coleraine boys did try to press further forward but this left them exposed at the back and Celtic punished them yet again. McGrath did all the hard work down the right and put the ball on a plate for Joshua Jack who did his job and put the Hoops 6-0 up.

The sub did his own work for his second a couple of minutes later, rounding off the scoring with a superb strike to give Celtic an emphatic 7-0 victory.

In the 5.00pm kick off at Oakland, Derry side Trojans FC held international visitors Everton America 1-1 in the U16 section. It was an equally entertaining game but there weren't as many goals in this one. With both sides losing their first two games it promised to be a tight affair in Group B.

Everton took the lead with Murray Riach picking the ball up down the right and executing a beautiful cross for Andrew Lasso to head home for a 1-0 half time advantage.

Trojans must have despaired of getting past rival keeper John Buczek who commanded his area and was reliable under the high ball every time. It seemed to always be in the air, however, that the local side would get something in front of their home crowd and that's what happened. Ethan McLauglin finished well after a scrappy build-up to level the final group game at 1-1 and earn his team a point.
