Lurgan Celtic clinch Belfast Telegraph Championship 2 title with super high five

By Stuart McKinley

Lurgan Celtic have clinched the Belfast Telegraph Championship 2 title - and in some style.

Already sure of their promotion to Championship 1, Celtic knew that victory at home to Sport & Leisure Swifts would see them go up as champions.

And in winning 5-0 Lurgan also killed off Sport & Leisure's promotion hopes and guaranteed that Annagh United will join them in the higher tier next season.

Celtic got off to a flyer when they opened the scoring after just four minutes.

Centre-half Stephen Hutchinson, who helped bolster the club's promotion challenge when he joined from Rathfriland Rangers in January, made his way up from the back to settle any early nerves.

Sport & Leisure were killed off by two quick-fire strikes either side of the half hour mark.

When Chris Lavery doubled the lead on 29 minutes the title was well on its way to Lurgan and he then all but clinched top spot when he doubled his own goal tally for the night by making it 3-0 just over 60 seconds later.

With the party mood already beginning to take hold, Celtic made it 4-0 through Raymond Fitzpatrick.

The icing was then put on the cake when Fitzpatrick scored his second of the night.

e FORMER Glentoran and Crusaders midfielder Darren Lockhart has been named as the new manager of Dundela.

His first challenge will be to restore the east Belfast club to Championship 1 following their relegation.
