Mark Edgar downs Glentoran to send Carrick into League Cup quarters
Mark Edgars struck as Carrick Rangers upset Glentoran to seal their spot in the quarter-finals of the Bet McLean League Cup on Tuesday night.
The ex-Coleraine defender curled home a free-kick after the hour-mark to down the Glens 1-0 at the Oval.
There was no such surprise at the Ballymena Showgrounds as Ballymena United knocked out Championship side Portadown 2-0. Kyle Owens opened the scoring, heading in an Andrew Burns cross before ex-Port Kevin Braniff sealed the points with a long-range free-kick.
Dungannon left it late to see off Warrenpoint 1-0 at Milltown but Paul McElroy netted his third goal in as many games with ten minutes on the clock to send the Swifts through.
Linfield, Ballyclare Comrades and Cliftonville are already through to the last eight. Next Tuesday evening, Ards host Glenavon and Crusaders welcome Coleraine in the last of the last 16 matches.
