Our top clubs will sit Welsh tests to prepare for big Euro challenges

By Graham Luney

Danske Bank Premiership sides will face Welsh opponents in a bid to sharpen their competitive edge ahead of European tests.

In a collaborative attempt to assist clubs representing both leagues in next season's Champions League and Europa League, it has been agreed that matches between teams from both countries will face each other on Saturday, June 17.

Linfield will travel to Maes Tegid to take on Bala Town (2pm) while further fixtures are being planned.

Andrew Johnston, NIFL Managing Director, said: "The NIFL are delighted to link up with our counterparts from the Dafabet Welsh Premier League on projects for the development of both leagues.

"This particular initiative should provide a valuable platform for clubs from both leagues to enhance their preparations for European Club Competitions."

Gwyn Derfel, Dafabet Welsh Premier League Secretary, added: "Both countries have recognised that the standards of our respective leagues will be judged to a large extent by our performances on the European stage and I'm pleased the pro-active relationship between ourselves and NIFL has resulted in meaningful preparation matches."
