Shiels uses injuries as a motivator as Derry get set to host champions

Derry City v Dundalk, SSE Airtricity League Premier Division, Maginn Park, Tonight, 7.45pm

By Eoin Wilson

Kenny Shiels has no shortage of personnel problems ahead of tonight's game against League of Ireland champions Dundalk at Maginn Park.

The Candystripes have enjoyed a brilliant start to the new season, with their 1-0 win over Shamrock Rovers on Friday a huge confidence boost ahead of the game against Stephen Kenny's side this evening.

"We're playing Dundalk under strength yet again," said Shiels. "I would love to have my full-strength team to put out against Dundalk but that hasn't happened yet. But the boys are courageous, and they're together and they have a collective energy. It will be a big ask against Dundalk, but hopefully we can do our best against them.

"I can't ask more than that. Players want to play against the better teams and being one of the lesser teams in the division, we'll continue to use that."
