Stute are aiming for top as Ards await fate

By Graham Luney

It's the final round of fixtures in the Danske Bank Premiership this afternoon and all matters have been decided – except for Ards' fate at the basement.

Even though the north-Down have finished rock bottom of the Premiership, there is still a chance they will be playing top-flight football next season.

And it's their neighbours Bangor who can keep Ards dreaming.

At the top of the Belfast Telegraph Championship, Institute and Bangor are locked in a thrilling title race which will be settled today.

If Institute finish top they will be automatically promoted to the Premiership with Ards relegated.

However, if the Seasiders – a point ahead of Stute – can finish on top, Niall Currie side's will have a fighting chance of retaining their Premiership status over a play-off battle with the north-west side.

Bangor, who have turned down the chance of going up, host H&W Welders while Institute are at home to Limavady United.

Institute ensured at least a play-off place with a 2-1 victory over third-placed Carrick Rangers.

Belfast Telegraph Championship One fixtures (3pm): Bangor v H&W Welders, Institute v Limavady Utd, Ballyclare Comrades v Knockbreda, Carrick Rangers v Donegal Celtic, Coagh United v Larne, Dundela v Loughgall, Lisburn Distillery vs Dergview.

Bangor's league success can benefit rivals Ards
