Carnbane League round-up November 2

In the Carnbane (Newry and Mourne) Football League, Newry Celtic, following a series of defeats, bounced back in fine style on Saturday, when they defeated local rivals Ballybot United 3-1 in a keenly contested game played at Jennings Park

Gavin Moan had the Celts ahead as early as the 11th minute with a well-taken goal, but Ballybot’s Conor Garvey had the sides on level terms five minutes later. Celtic replied with a series of attacks, and they were rewarded in the 23rd minute, when Gavin Moan again netted to give them a 2-1 interval lead.

In the second half, Colm Fegan secured the points for Celtic when he scored their killer third goal.

This win will restore a lot of confidence into the Celtic team panel, and their next big game is this coming Saturday when they clash with local rivals Orchard City in the second round stage of the Mid Ulster Shield.

Although unbeaten, Windmill Stars are the firm favourites to lift the Premier Division Championship title this season. However, it was Cleary Celtic who soared to the top of the table on Saturday, when they defeated Killowen Celtic 3-1.

In Division 1 of the league, Bohemians had a 4-2 win over Ashgrove Rovers, while Rockview United managed their second win of the season when they had the better of opposing Grasshoppers, who they defeated 3-1.
