Carnbane League round-up October 12

Orchard City crashed to their first defeat of the season in the Carnbane (Newry and Mourne) Football League on Saturday, when they suffered a 2-1 defeat on their travels to Killeavy United, the reigning Carnbane Premier League Champions.

It was Orchard City who got off to a great start when Lee Feeney gave them the lead after just seven minutes, but seven minutes later, Killeavy were on level terms when in one of their dangerous attacking moves, an Orchard defender had the misfortune of putting the ball into his own net to make it 1-1.

Then in the 31st minute, Robbie Hempkin finished off a Killeavy movement by scoring what proved to be the winning goal.

The second half was a blaze of excitement as first one team and then the other launched themselves into attacking formations, but the respective defences held firm, and at the final whistle, Killeavy just about deserved their narrow win.

Windmill Stars are now the only unbeaten team in the Premier Division of the Carnbane League, and as a result of their 4-0 win over Whitecross AFC,  they now go to the top of the table.
