Down Area Winter Football League round-up, March 5

In the Premier Division, Moat Park Rangers went seven points clear at the top, but they were made to work for the three points by fifth-placed Oakfield Breda in a 2-1 win.

Comber Young Men maintained their fourth placed position as they edged past Newtown Forest 3-2, and in the other game played in the division, North Down and Bangor Rangers III shared the points in a 2-2 draw.

In Division 1, it was a battle between first and third when Ballygowan entertained unbeaten leaders Agape. A win for Ballygowan would have improved their outside chance of winning the division, but it wasn't to be, as Agape extended their unbeaten run and increased their lead at the top to four points over Clonduff. Highest scorers in the division were Bryansburn Rangers III, as they beat the team above them, Shorts III, 7-2.

In Division 2A, Agape II made it a good day for the club, as they edged a five-goal thriller against North Down II.

The Frank Moore Memorial Cup saw Premier Division basement club, Comber Star, secure their first competitive win of the season, as they beat Castlereagh FC 82 on penalties - so is this the result that will kick start their season? There were also victories for Stranmillis 37th OB, Ards Rangers III and Bangor YM III. In the Sittlington Cup, 43rd Dundonald progressed to the next round, following an 8-3 win over Ravenhill YM III, but Brentwood went out following a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Queens Grads III.

There were further group matches in the Tommy Murphy Memorial Shield, which saw wins for Ballygowan II, 43rd Dundonald II & Clonduff II while the points were shared between 8th OB II & Moat Park Rangers II.
