Down Area Winter Football League round-up, May 3

Vision Athletic added another twist into the DAWFL Premiership tale, with their 3-3 draw against Greenwell Star throwing the destination of the title into Moat Park Rangers hands.

Two wins in their remaining two ties will see the silverware displayed proudly in Dundonald, however they must overcome Comber Young Men and Oakfield Breda for that to become a reality.

Oakfield Breda will certainly play a big part in the closing days, with Mark Frizelle’s men also facing Greenwell Star on the last days of the season, while Ravenhill YM pose the other threat to Lee Catchcart’s dreams.

Abbey Villa III’s brought their remarkable second half of the season to an end with their 5-0 win against Bryansburn Rangers III’s seeing it come to a conclusion with a 19 game unbeaten run.

Ards Rangers III’s 1-0 win over Agape sees them guaranteed a higher finish than local neighbours Ballywalter Rec III’s, who inflicted more misery over Stranmillis 37 OB’s with a 3-2 win.

Ballygowan’s 3-3 draw against Queens Graduates III’s saw them finish in a respectable fourth position.

The only tie in the reserve leagues saw Bangor Rangers IV’s bring their season to an end with a 2-0 win over Ballygowan.

Ravenhill YM II’s booked their place in Thursday (8 May) night’s Tommy Memorial Shield final with a 4-2 win over Greenwell Star II’s. Joining them will be Moat Park Rangers II’s, who made up for their Mervyn Bassett Cup defeat by defeating Bryansburn Rangers III’s 3-2.

The tie takes place at Adams Park Millisle with a 6.30pm kick-off.

The Sittlington Cup final take place this Monday night (5th May) at Drome Park, Newtownards with a 6.30pm kick-off. Battling it out will be Corrymeela and Moat Park Rangers.

The Frank Moore Memorial Cup final sees Abbey Villa III’s face 43 OB on Wednesday (7 May) at The Drome, Newtownards with a 6.30pm kick-off.
