Down Area Winter Football League round-up, November 21

It was another weekend schedule severely depleted by the weather, but the games that survived delivered another real goal-fest.

In the Premier Division, it's clearly a two-horse race for the title, as Greenwell Star and Moat Park Rangers continue to match each other's results and distance themselves from the chasing pack. Greenwell entertained basement club Comber Star and totally outclassed them with an 11-0 scoreline. Moat Park weren't to be outdone and scored eight themselves in an 8-3 win over Ravenhill YM III. Reigning champions Brentwood moved up to third position, some 12 points behind the top two, with a close 3-2 away win over 8th OB.

In Division 1, Ballygowan remain top following a comfortable 4-0 victory over Abbey Villa III and Agape moved ominously up to second place and maintain their unbeaten league run with a resounding 8-1 demolition of Bangor Swifts III. There was also an emphatic 9-1 win for new club Carrowdore YM to continue their own good start to life in the DAWFL.

Division 2A saw the top two meet, so a close game was expected, and that's what was delivered, as Greenwell Star II and Moat Park Rangers II played out an entertaining 3-3 draw. In Division 2B, Comber Young Men II moved up to second place following an emphatic 10-0 away win against 43rd Dundonald II.

In the Jigsaw Financial Billy Allen Memorial Shield, Comber YM had a resounding 10-1 win over Bangor Rangers III, and Newtownards RBL celebrated a 5-1 win over Castlereagh FC 82. In the Mervyn Bassett Reserve Cup, Newtownards RBL II beat North Down II on penalties, with wins also for 3rd Bangor II, Oakfield Breda II and Queens Grads IV.
