Down Area Winter League round-up, February 15

The ‘W’ in the DAWFL must be getting extremely close to standing for ‘Washout’, with the weather once again resulting in all league competition fixtures being cancelled.

Looking further ahead to forthcoming Cup matches, the Billy Allen Memorial Shield Final is shaping up to be a tasty affair, with League heavyweights Greenwell Star and Moat Park Rangers seemingly favourites to do battle. Standing in their way however are Castlereagh Colts and Willowfield Parish, who no doubt will be out to defy the odds and book their own place in the Easter Monday showdown.

In the Sittlington Cup there is a possibility of three Comber teams making up the semi-final line up, however with only the Rec III’s having booked their place, the Star and the Young Men know they have a lot to do in order to overcome Bangor YM III’s and Moat Park Rangers/Ravenhill YM respectively. Corrymeela will eagerly await the draw, having defeated Willowfield Parish convincingly in the last round.
