Kevin Long joins Barnsley on one-month loan from Burnley

Barnsley have signed Burnley defender Kevin Long for an initial month on loan.

Long, 25, due to return to Burnley on December 19, is expected to go straight into head coach Lee Johnson's starting line-up at Oldham on Saturday alongside Aidy White, who was signed on loan from Rotherham this week until January.

"I'm itching to play," Long told Barnsley's official website. "I jumped at the opportunity to come out and play.

"The gaffer here is a genuine guy and I know one or two of the lads here. It's a good fit for me.

"Even if I didn't know anyone here it's still a big club with good training facilities, it was kind of an easy choice."

Irishman Long, who progressed through the academy at Turf Moor, has yet to feature for Burnley this season and made only two senior appearances in the previous campaign.

Under-pressure Johnson has moved to increase his options in a squad lacking confidence as he bids to halt Barnsley's slide down the table following eight straight league defeats.
