Glens fan in call for 'dramatic changes'

Friday, June 01, 2007

A prominent Glentoran fan has warned the club that "there should be no survivors" after the managerial mess on Mersey Street.

Tom Dick yesterday resigned as Glentoran's Director For Football but Tommy McKee insists the other board members should follow him out the exit door.

McKee, one of the club's 250 shareholders, is a well known enthusiastic fundraiser at the Oval. He organises the Half 'n' Half draw, which brought in over £10,000 to the club this past season alone, and is a member of the 125 Committee.

He said: "There should be no survivors from this mess. All the board members should resign. I have always believed in supporting people rather than criticising them and I have got behind players and managers but the club has drifted from one catastrophe to the next.

"The guys on the board are Glentoran fans and many are friends of mine but I would say this to their face. We can't go on like this. This club needs to be run in a professional way. Supporters have no confidence in the board and that confidence must be restored. They are pointing the finger of blame at each other and in my opinion they have shown no moral courage.

"I am devastated for Roy Walker, who is an innocent party in this episode, as he has been treated appallingly.

"It's time we stopped being a laughing stock and the board have to take ultimate responsibility."
