Big Two beats England, says Linfield star Thompson

Peter Thompson is out to make up for lost time by firing Linfield to victory over Glentoran tonight.

The Blues will move to within two points of the top of the Carling Premiership if they win at the Oval — and they will still have three games in hand over leaders Crusaders.

Having spent the last 18 months with Stockport County before returning to the Blues on-loan earlier this month, it is now almost three years since Thompson sccored against the Glens — the winner in a Setanta Sports Cup tie in April 2007 — and he can’t wait to experience the unique Big Two atmosphere once again.

“I probably have missed these games because they are the ones that anyone playing in the Irish League wants to be involved in,” said Thompson.

“There weren’t any games like this at Stockport.”
