Bray Wanderers 0 Derry City 1

Derry City put their money problems behind them and earned a valuable three points at bottom club Bray Wanderers last night.

A Gareth McGlynn header two minutes from time was enough for Stephen Kenny’s men to make it three league wins in a row.

Derry started the game on the front foot and they went close to taking an 11th minute late.

After forcing four corners on the spin, another James McClean in-swinging delivery fell to Ger O’Brien, but his low shot was kept out by Chris O’Connor; Tam McManus’ shot from the loose ball was unfortunately blocked by Mark Farren and O’Connor did well to turn away McClean’s follow-up effort.

The home side failed to create anything until the half-hour mark when Gareth Coughlan got away from Peter Hutton, but his curling shot, which had Gerard Doherty scrambling, flashed just wide.

The Candystripes hit the woodwork twice in the space of a minute when firstly Eddie McCallion’s 25-yard dipping shot, came crashing back off the bar and fortunately for Bray, McGlynn saw his header from close range saved by O’Connor.

A minute later Farren, who was having a quite night up until then, saw his fierce right-footed shot, which had O’Connor beaten all ends up, smashed back off the bar. A super pass by McCallion then released McClean and the youngster’s tremendous centre found an unmarked Farren, but the Greencastle man’s header was poor and looped into the thankful O’Connor’s hands.

A Ruairdhi Higgins corner found man-of-the-match Ger O’Brien, and his flick-on found Tam McManus, but his volley flew well over.

Then, right at the death, a long punt down field by Doherty was allowed to bounce inside the Bray penalty area and substitute Aaron Nash reacted quickest to the bouncing ball to head it into McGlynn’s path and gleefully headed home from close range.
