Cillian Sheridan lands new deal at Celtic

Celtic striker Cillian Sheridan has signed a new three-year contract after making an instant impact on his senior debut.

The Ireland Under-18 international came off the bench to set up Kenny Miller's winning goal at Inverness on Sunday, which carried Celtic through to the Tennent's Scottish Cup semi-finals.

Sheridan told www.celticfc.net: ``I am delighted to agree this new contract with Celtic and commit myself to the club until 2010.

``It is a privilege to be part of a club of Celtic's size and stature.

``It was fantastic to play some part in Sunday's match and I will be working hard to try to ensure that I can make many more appearances for the Celtic first team.

``There are some top players here and I know it will be difficult but I will certainly be doing all I can to force my way into the first team.''

Celtic boss Gordon Strachan believes the youngster's ambitions are closely tied in with the club's own vision for the future, and considers Sheridan a player who can make a long-term impact.

``We are delighted to have secured Cillian on this long-term contract,'' said Strachan.

``He wants to play his football here at Celtic and we are pleased that he has committed his future to the club.

``He is a talented player and, like other players at the club, he has the potential to achieve a great deal in the game.

``We will do all we can to ensure that Cillian and these other players realise their potential.''
