Derry City stars can go free

Dery City's players were last night informed by the FAI that they can leave the club as free agents — and a mass exodus is now expected.

There had been confusion over the players' status when Lincoln City's attempt to sign winger James McLean was blocked.

Ruaidhri Higgins is being chased by Aberdeen, Steven Gray is on the wanted list of both Bohemians and Shamrock Rovers, while Tam McManus returned to Scotland.

Meanwhile, Shamrock Rovers yesterday confirmed that they have released Simon Madden, Darragh Maguire, Shane Robinson and Cory Tracey, while goalkeeper Barry Murphy is expected to sign for either Bohemians or Sporting Fingal despite having been offered a new contract by the Hoops.

Rovers yesterday confirmed that they have sent a letter to the FAI, querying some of Bohemians' spending patterns in recent years.
