Donegal Celtic are attempting to tie up a deal with former Linfield and Crusaders striker Mark Dickson.
Manager Marty Tabb will hand Dickson an opportunity to impress in a pre-season friendly against H&W Welders this weekend, with a deal expected to be put on the table.
“It's a case of Mark taking a look at our set-up and us taking a look at his fitness and application,” said Tabb.
“He is a quality striker, someone I have admired in the game and his personality is well-known and respected.
“We need to strengthen, not in numbers, but in quality — and I am doing my best to make that happen.”
Dickson was released by the Crues in the summer after an injury-ravaged season.
Tabb may, however, be forced to let players go in order to free up resources for new signings.
