Ferguson kicks off Ballymena United rebuilding

Glenn Ferguson wants to complete more transfer business before the end of the season after tying goalkeeper Stuart Addis to a new deal and signing Crusaders left-back Stephen McBride on a pre-contract.

The Ballymena United boss achieved one of his goals this season in winning the County Antrim Shield. He had also set his sights on a top six finish and he is now working hard to make sure that ambition doesn't elude him again in 12 months time.

"We are looking at the players in the existing squad and weighing up what we need to improve," said Ferguson, ahead of today's home clash with Portadown.

"We want to challenge and it may be a case of having to look elsewhere for what we need.

"We are working on new contracts for some of the players that we already have and we intend to speak to them. If we can get them tied up it gives them peace of mind before the summer.

"It also helps us if we can get some of our business done early and then we can concentrate on other avenues in preparation for next season."
