Cardiff City snap up local starlet Gary Lavery

Gary Lavery was supposed to be joining Glenavon's under-16 team on a trip to San Marino next week, but he will now be otherwise engaged.

Instead of tuning out for the Lurgan Blues, the teenager will be playing for the Bluebirds next season after being snapped up by Premier League new boys Cardiff City.

Lavery joined the Welsh outfit on a two-year contract after impressing scouts while playing for Glenavon's youth team before going to Cardiff for a trial.

He also played twice in the first team for Gary Hamilton before making the move.

The Glenavon boss is currently preparing his team for the new Danske Bank Premiership season, but was left frustrated last night when a planned pre-season friendly against Dromara Village failed to go ahead when the opposition were unable to field a team.
