Glens countdown to Euro test begins

Saturday, 4 July 2009

Glentoran will step-up preparations for their Champions League clash with Maccabi Haifa against Amateur League opposition this afternoon.

Alan McDonald will take his team to face Dunmurry Rec at Ashley Park (kick-off 2pm) at the start of three games in a week.

The Glens face Dundela on Tuesday and then Nortel next Saturday.

Crusaders — who open their Europa League campaign against Rabotnicki of Slovenia at Mourneview Park on July 14 — are also in action this afternoon.

They meet Championship One side Ballyclare Comrades at Dixon Park (3pm).

Jonny Magee, who completed his move from Lisburn Distillery this week, will make his debut for the Crues.

Brilliant preparation work, practice for playing much better opposition by lining out against a team not good enough to play in our own league. Genius.

Daily role will be hard to resist for Worthington

When I was a kid I remember watching international football and more often than not seeing what looked like old men in suits barking out instructions from the bench.
