Glentoran and Linfield chase Newry’s Clarke

Glentoran and Linfield are set to go to war in the January transfer window.

Belfast’s Big Two are to fight it out for the services of one of local football’s most coveted prospects. Newry City captain Richard Clarke is the man on the wanted list at both the Oval and Windsor Park.

Both Glens boss Alan McDonald and his Linfield counterpart David Jeffrey have made official their interest in the player.

They will have to show Newry City the colour of their money if they are to prise the Showgrounds skipper away from the club, as his contract doesn’t run out until the end of the season. It is believed that both clubs have been quoted a figure for Clarke and now the wheeling and dealing can start in earnest.

Derry City are also watching developments with Clarke and the lure of full-time football in the eircom League may be attractive to the 23-year-old.
