Glentoran find form at just the right time

Glentoran 3 Ballinamallard 0

Neither Glentoran or Linfield are going to win the Premiership, but the final Big Two meeting of the season could be the most significant game in what remains of the campaign.

The Blues and Glens are set to clash in the first post-split game on Easter Saturday at Windsor Park, with third place in the league at stake.

The Glens' 3-0 win over Ballinamallard United on Saturday has moved them to within five points of their cross-city rivals and the east-Belfast men are clicking at a good time.

"It was probably the most comprehensive performance that we have put in all season," said Patterson.

"Fortunately enough we got the result to go with that, because it was a very, very similar performance against Ballymena United last week and we thought that we didn't get the result we deserved.

"Getting the three points to go with the performance was the most important thing."

In truth it was a 3-0 hammering and the Glens could – and really should – have doubled their goal tally on the day.

Andy Waterworth was guilty of a glaring miss as he shot wide from eight yards out after David Howland's 25-yard effort has rattled the crossbar.

Richard Clarke showed a touch of class with a great chip over Alvin Rouse for the opener on 31 minutes.

Waterworth set up Martin Murray for the second seven minutes into the second half and scored the third himself on 77 minutes.
