Government will come up with cash for Windsor Park

Jim Boyce is confident that government money will be released for the re-development of Windsor Park.

While IFA President Raymond Kennedy has said he is pessimistic that £23 million is available from Sports Minister Nelson McCausland, his predecessor believes it is there and will be handed over once an independent review on how the IFA runs its business has been conducted.

Boyce said: “Nelson McCausland is right to ask for an independent review into the IFA and hopefully that will be put in place and when everyone is happy, funds will be released.

“I feel the money is there and believe it will be handed over for the redevelopment of Windsor, which is a necessity.

“It has long been my wish to also see a Centre of Excellence in Northern Ireland put in place for the development of our future stars and perhaps a stadium with a 7,000 or 8,000 capacity built in conjunction with that.

“For now though I sincerely hope that nothing further is done to jeopardise a new stadium at Windsor that we can all be proud of.”

Boyce is happily returning to good health after suffering from a hyperparathyroidism.

He said: “I’ve had a difficult few months health wise with a hyperparathyroidism which necessitated a major operation.

“I was quite ill for a period but thankfully the operation was a success and I would say I’m 90 per cent back to full health.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the people who visited me, sent cards and contacted me to wish me well.”
