Hamilton’s fear for Glentoran's kids

Gary Hamilton has warned Glentoran’s boo-boys that they could shatter the confidence of the club’s younger players.

The criticism aimed at the manager Alan McDonald and his players will not keep the former Northern Ireland striker awake at night but he is worried at the impact it will have on promising young Oval talent such as Johnny Black, James Taylor, Grant Gardiner and Jimmy Callacher.

Hamilton said: “For players like myself, Leeper (Paul Leeman) and Keith (Gillespie), this criticism is nothing new and we have heard it before but I do worry about the younger players.

“Their confidence can be fragile and when you have a situation where a player doesn’t want the ball then problems will arise. Fans will show their frustration but I’m worried about the impact on younger players. Alan (McDonald) has taken a lot of flack and it might have shocked them. We all have to respond in the right way.”
