Johnston jumps at Shamrock Rovers loan move

Thursday, 30 July 2009

Cliftonville midfielder Barry Johnston last night completed a loan move to Shamrock Rovers.

The 28-year-old was placed on the transfer list by the Solitude club at the end of last season and featured in Rovers' recent friendly clash with Newcastle United.

Confirming the deal, Reds Chairman Gerard Lawlor said: “The last few months have been difficult for all parties, but hopefully we have found a solution to suit everyone.”

Rovers, who are managed by former Northern Ireland international Michael O'Neill and currently trail league leaders Bohemians by five points, have the option to sign Johnston on a permanent basis for an agreed fee when his loan deal expires in December.
