Larne to play on despite winding-up order

Larne chairman Archie Smyth has insisted his club are preparing as usual for tomorrow’s Co-Opererative Insurance Cup trip to Dungannon Swifts, despite news of a winding up order at the High Court yesterday.

A reported debt of close to £70,000 was the reason Larne Football Club Ltd were brought to book.

However, Smyth insists that it is the end for the Limited Company, not for the Football Club as a whole.

He said last night: “It’s all systems go for Saturday as usual. Reports that Larne FC has been wound are simply not true.

“The limited company was never registered with either the Irish Football Association or the County Antrim FA.

“The limited company have had nothing to do with the running of the club in the last few years.

“The limited company and Larne Football Club are two different entities, the limited company only came into being around 20 years ago.

“Their Articles of Association state that they were there to help and promote the interests of Larne FC, they did not own the club.

“In fact, as far as I was aware, they did not have any assets, they certainly don’t own Inver Park, nor do they own the lease on Inver Park.

“During my time as chairman of the club I have tried my best to sort out the financial mess, but I have had no co-operation from the treasurer of the limited company and he he has refused that help and, indeed, refused to submit the company’s accounts as well.”
