Linfield and Cliftonville ready for rearranged clash

Wednesday, 7 January 2009

Linfield’s abandoned opening day clash against Cliftonville will be played next Tuesday evening, January 13.

The Windsor Park clash back in August was halted by referee Alan Black with the Blues 1-0 up against their cross-town rivals.

Jamie Mulgrew’s super solo strike had given the champions the lead but torrential rain put a dampener on the league curtain-raiser.

The two teams, of course, met last Saturday, with the Blues enjoying a hard-fought 2-1 win over Eddie Patterson’s men thanks to

goals from Paul Munster and Mark Miskimmin.

Title rivals, Glentoran, will also be in action next Tuesday evening.

Their New Year’s Day clash with Institute fell foul of frosty conditions in Drumahoe and they will hope to turn up the heat in the race for the title when they head up to the Maiden City.

That game will feature Institute in their unique pink kit aiming to raise cancer awareness.

Both games kick off at 7.45pm.
